Q: Mike-where do I get a replacement guard (the plastic tube that protects from the blade, front side. Hopefully there is a metal version that won't fall to pieces after the first few "tough" uses. by Scott from Kentucky on September 25, 2011
A: You have to get a replacement through the manufaturer. Here is there technical support line. 1800-345-6007 by Mike, Product Expert
Q: I really like the Model 9060300 Earthquake (3") 206cc Chipper / Shredder With Briggs & Stratton Intek Engine, but so many reviews on chippers complain about the nuts loosen from the vibrations...same with this one? I also weigh, only 126 lbs, will I be able to push/pull it around my property without having to hire a mule? Is the 14 gal gas can with siphon a necessity for out in the woods? by Fred Bloesch from New York on March 20, 2011
A: Thanks for your inquiry. We have not had any issues with the nuts loosening from vibrations on this model. This chipper is very lightweight and easy to maneuver. I would think you would hvae no issue moving the unit. The 14 gallon gas can with siphon would be a nice idea if you far in the woods. by Mike, Product Expert
This unit earned our "Better" slot because of it's heavy duty components & larger capacity.
Even if you aren't planning on using the mulch for your landscape, this chipper/shredder will turn 20 bags of yard waste into just 1! That's less to lug to the curb, and less in the landfill- a good thing all around.
The large 2 bushel collection bag means you can get more done before you have to stop and empty it.
This unit handles branches up to 3" in diameter.

wood chipper
Some hardware was missing, a couple holes didn't line up at assembly and the bag attachment seems like an afterthought. That being said the chipper started on the first pull, ran well and made fast work of some branches.
Although I only had a chance to use it for a short time(weather) I look foward to ustng it and I think it will be a very useful piece of equipment in the long term.
I was also pleased with your promptness of delivery.
CSD RESPONDS: The folks at Earthquake will be happy to send you the parts that were missing from your box.
Just give them a call, toll free, at (800) 345-6007. They will ask for the serial number of your unit, so be sure to have that handy when you call.

Chews up anything
Purchased this after the 10/31 snowstorm in the north east. I have almost 2 acres with tons of trees, and it was going to be impossible to rent a chipper in my area for months with all of the tree damage.
The reason this does not get 5 stars from me is the assembly, and the oil fill.
Regarding the assembly, attaching the hopper was not easy. There is a metal liner in the bottom that goes inside the chipping area, and the plastic hopper goes on the outside. I had to remove the safety flaps on the top of the hopper just to see what I was doing, and even then, getting everything to fit before bolting up was tricky.
The oil fill cap is behind the chute. It is nearly impossible to access. I had to use needle nose pliers to get to it, and even then I could only turn the cap a few degrees. Once removed, you will need a funnel with a long neck to fill the oil reservoir. A simple design change, of adding an 8" riser tube on top of the fill cap, would eliminate this problem entirely.
Having said this, these are NOT reasons to dissuade you from making this purchase. This think is a beast, and with out it, my yard would still look like hell. I has chipped up yard debris from a variety of different trees with ease. Usually starts with one pull (although a "heavy" pull).
I also purchased the tow bar. Although it does what it is supposed to do, that is overpriced for what you get. It is just two channels that go around the handle and wheel axle, and each channel has two cotter pins. The do not fit snug to the bars. Just guessing at dimensions here, but if the handle is 3/4", then the channel that goes over it is 1" wide. So as you tow the chipper, the finish gets scraped off.

Chipping monster
I ordered this chipper after reading reviews on it and am very satisfied with it. It is a monster at gobbling up limbs and leaves.
I have a hedge that is 100' long 20' wide and 30' tall that I am starting to trim down. True it is soft wood but it chews up the branches and leaves in no time.
A little trouble starting after it has run for a while so you have to choke it a little to get it to start or as I learned just idle it down when emptying the bag or taking a break. The oil fill is a pain but I have a fill spout with a long tube so it is not bad.
Grinds up everything into small pieces and I spread it under the hedge that I am trimming so back to the earth!
I recommend this one for the homeowner who needs to clean up a lot of brush and branches.
The one thing I am going to change is the handle. Too low to tip back and roll comfortably so I will make a taller handle. Also the bag attachment is a little wimpy. Could use larger "hooks" to keep it on better especially on top where I wrap the bag around the bolt that holds on the discharge chute.
CSD RESPONDS: Please be aware that any changes to the unit could affect your warranty. You may want to touch base with the folks at Earthquake, toll free, at (800) 345-6007 just to stay on the safe side.

Does the job
1) had to ream out irregular hopper hole to get bolt in
2) had to provide my own washers for handle assembly
3) sight inside hopper to make sure metal lip is inside
chute before attaching nuts and bolts
4) note that B & S manual says to change oil after first
5 hours
5) can't feed items if bend exceeds chute capacity.
Have a pile of twisty, zig-zag oak branches over 1/2"
thick cannot process
6) referencing previous complaint, oil easy to change
with choice of two caps
7) three hours and thirty minutes running time to make a
pile 9' x 7' x 4' consisting of branches up to 2" and
vines disappear
8) having trouble keeping bag on
CSD RESPONDS: This unit has a 1 year factory warranty. Please feel free to contact the folks at Earthquake, toll free, at (800) 345-6007 to answer any questions or set up any warranty service you may need.

Excellent Customer Service
I had a major problem with my Earthquake Chipper Shredder. When I called customer service to explain the problem I was transferred to a super nice woman named Sherry. Within one minute she told me I would be sent a new chipper shredder.
Because different departments were involved, I ended up talking with five people. The total time of all the conversations was less than 15 minutes, and each person was both professional and courteous.
The bottom line was that I had a new replacement within three business days. Retailers and manufacturers across this country would do well to study the way the Earthquake manufacturer (Ardisam) treats problems and how the employees interact with consumers.
I recommend the Earthquake chipper shredder to anyone. Mine runs roughly eight to ten hours every weekend from October through mid-January, mainly shredding leaves. For what it's worth, the company said the major problem I encountered was a first. I believe that.

More than most home owners need...
I've had this for about a year, just dusted it off and started it up for fall clean up.
Still works like new, just be sure to winterize or what ever you do before long storage.
This chipper still pulls branches right out of my hand... you need to control how fast you feed it, it will stall itself out it is so eager to chip wood. If that happens it just takes a few wrenches and drivers and a little clearing and you are back at it!

WOW! What a tool!
Ordered my Chipper/Shredder Sunday 9/25 received it Thursday 9/29. The machine is really quite easy to assemble however, the instructional manual could be a little more user-friendly. The writer appeared to have a poor command of the English language. Very minor points indeed!
I used the machine for a couple of hours today and I LOVE IT? I certainly will not recoup the money I paid for it in one year, but it allows me the opportunity to work at my own pace, work when I choose, on my terms.
The Earthquake performed flawlessly, and I am quite pleased with my overall purchase. However, it is really quite hard to fill the machine with oil, also, the manual is not clear on where the oil-filler is located.
This is my second purchase from Mowers Direct and I give them an A+.
I highly recommend the Earthquake for a cost effective, efficient machine.
