Took a 445 back to Tractor Supply Company that I bought Sunday, 4/21/13 because it wasn't performing correctly. A lot of that was my fault but TSC has a one year walk in and get the same type if it's screwing up. They had started a clearance sale and I traded up ($+30.00) from the 445. The 455 was on sale for $299.99. The 445 was working great w/its 16" blade, but now I got a 20". Going to put that animal to use tomorrow. Based on the 445, I am sure the 455 will perform even better.
One other thing. When you loosen the cover nut to put tension on the chain, don't forget to tighten it back. That cover will come flying off once that nut vibrates off.

Satisfied with the service and speed of delivery and in getting the right ones for my saw, another site I tried wasn't as accurate.

Husky Vs. Stihl
My father has owned, used(punished), and loved his Stihl chainsaw for 22yrs.. I fall short at remembering the model #, but he has ran it with an 18" bar to do all things required on our farm. At times in my life I was convinced that my father would rather run a saw then breath. Anyway, I decided to upgrade my saw status and started shopping around. In October 2011 dad and I spent some time in the Santa Cruz Mtns. in California cutting trees- I ran a 455 Husqvarna. Dad ran a 220 Stihl. The saws we were using were not ours, we had to borrow these saws because we live in TN and didn't want to carry ours with us. So, long story short- I really liked the saw and so did dad (a stead fast Stihl man). The saw was able to do what ever we put it up to, and some of the trees were big!
I bought a 455 and love it- dad borrows it all the time, but saying that I am in no way stating that the saw is superior to a Stihl nor would I say that the Stihl is superior. What I would like to emphasize is that my preference is this model Husqvarna.. I own a Stihl, 2 Poulans, an Echo, and now the Husqvarna. I go for the Husqvarna every time. Dad says the Stihl is what he likes. The key match the saw to the job.

Mr. Mfg. Eng.
I was very well please with the way Chains Saws Direct handled my order.
They were very informative as to when the product would ship and tentative arrival date.
Also, their saw was very competitive priced. I used my saw the day I received it, right out of the box, just added oil and gas. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a good source.
Thanks for your attentiveness.

Having Problems (sent To Customer Service)
Can't figure what is going on with the chains. I've purchsed 4 chains, one after the other because they seem to be getting chewed up and then won't fit back into bar. i'm not doing anything unusual. I recently purchased from you another chain and bar to see if that makes a difference. It didn't!! I only used the recently new chain for a short time, only cutting basic stuff and the same thing happened. Chain gets chewed up and can't fit back in bar. I have 4 chains that I should be able to use and can't.

Quality And Craftmanship
I have been around a few saws of all types and classes. I have owned a 16 inch, 340 Husqvarna since '06 & have loved that saw for cutting firewood and limbing trees. I have cut about 120 cords of wood with it.
I decided it needed a partner, so in my own research decided on the 455 rancher 20 inch. I have cut 4 cords with it. I really like the power- it runs the 20 inch bar very well.
It has good balance and power; the weight is not bad at all for me. The oiler for the bar and chain worked very well and it starts very easily every time.
If a person is in need of a nice 18 or 20-inch saw this would be my pick. I do not believe you will be unsatisfied.

Husqvarna Chain Not As Good As Oregon?
Bought a Husky 455 18 inch. Very happy with the saw, started right up, plenty of power.
The chain on the other hand (H80-68) is not very aggressive, probably because they want it to be a low chance of kickback type chain. In this area it is fine, but in cutting speed it is not as good as an Oregon chain I bought to replace it.
CSD RESPONDS: You may be comparing two different styles of chain, since Oregon make all the bars & chains for Husqvarna.

16.5 Foot Around With An 18 In Bar
I cut a huge wedge then went inside that wedge and cut another then cut clear around the tree deep as the 18 in bar would go- still standing.
Now uneasy i go back to my wedge and slowly take more out.tree pops starts to come down.it pinched my bar. I made 3 attempts to free it as the tree came down, it was time to bail.
I moved out the way and my saw got crushed. These are great saws. I'm going to get me another one. Plenty of power with high rpm. Light weight, you cant beat them.
CSD RESPONDS: The Husqvarna Owner's Manuals contain great information on how to safely drop large trees, with even more pictures & video on their web site!

My Huge Tree
On our farm we had a very big mulberry tree we needed to cut down and into firewood. We had several smaller chain saws but I knew I needed a lot more of a saw.
I ordered and got the 455 Rancher with a 20 inch bar because I needed to longer bar just to be able to cut it down. I was really amazed at the ease of falling the tree and it really suprised me at the speed it cut and finished up the entire project in one afternoon.
I am telling all of my friends and relatives about Husqvarnas power and speed. I would recomend this saw to anyone who has wood to cut. Thanks

455 Rancher
I have this saw. It runs and cuts great and has a lot of power. I did have a problem with the chain break locking up numerous times so I took it out.

455 Rancher Problem
The 455 Rancher I bought at Sears has turned into a pain in the rear. The engine runs great, but it throws chains like crazy, which ruins the chain. I bought a 455 with a 20 inch bar, which is now OBSOLETE. I bought the machine just 2 years ago. I'd like to change out the bar to the bigger guide width size, but no info is available. I've been told the 460 bar and chain will not fit the 455. Original Husqvarna equipment is hard to come by if u need something fast.

Knowledge For Service Tech
To Whom can help,
I contacted service rep. before ordering 18' Powersharp Starter kit, and was told it would fit my Husqvarna 455 (has 20' bar on it now). Service member told me it would work. Once I received kit tried to install and Chain adjustment pin to is to big does not fix hole in Powersharp bar. Need some help on where to go from here, replace, modify, or return?
To which I got the response, you sure can sent it back if you pay for shipping and read our return policy. Which says if you got free shipping we are going to take out of your refund. Oh and before you do that make sure you call us and make sure it is ok to return and get a Return Material Authorization.
Here is my problem with that I get that you don’t want returns, it cost time and money. I don’t want to return things either more of my time and money, that is why I asked the questions (research) I did before I purchased your product. I do not see how cost of shipping (both ways) becomes my problem when I asked your EXPERTS, as you call them, were wrong they need to do more research before asnwering a customers questions. I am sure this is a great product and it works great and with great results. So I find no problem with you product, or even return policy, just your customer service.
CSD RESPONDS: Thank you for taking the time to contact us- you are absolutely correct. We have already issued a call tag to have the PowerSharp kit picked up at our expense; we have updated our reference chart, and worked with our product experts to make sure they are aware of the updates.
As soon as we receive the PowerSharp Kit back at our warehouse we will be happy to refund your entire purchase price. Would you please contact us to update your phone number? It came up as disconnected when we tried to call.
Thank you for giving us a chance to make things right!

The Top Saw
I use mine daily it has great power. Starts easy every time. Glad I made this choice.
If you're not going to use often then I would get the 16" bar- my son has it and it is as dependable. I have owned other saws from Craftsman to Poulan you get what you pay for, I will say that.
I always us Husqvarna oils in the saw and mix Stay-bil fuel mix in all fuels. With Ethanol in fuel its shelf life without Sta-bil is 30 days. Then it breaks down.

Perfect Chainsaw
I occasionally use it; I have a 20'' bar and a 38 chain on it.
I have cut up a lot of hard hickory with it- by far the best chainsaw I have ever used.
