Q: MIKE- ON THE 18" MCCULLOUGH CHAIN SAWS, IS IT ELECTRIC STARTER? THANKS- HELEN by HELEN from Georgia on October 26, 2011
A: The "Effortless Pull Starting™ System" that McCulloch uses on this saw is still a recoil starter- where you have to pull the rope to get the motor going.
The "effortless" part has reduced the resistance in the starter cord by up to 40%, so you don't have to pull as hard to get it going.
This saw cuts well and isn't a pain to start. Good saw for the money and it's made in the USA.
I recommend it to anybody looking for a good all-around chain saw.

Good saw
I'm 47 years old and owned a lot of saws over the years and cut a lot of wood. So believe me when i tell you, if you are looking for a good saw to keep the homestead clean- Look no farther.
This one has it, a little hard to start COLD ( 5 to 10 pulls) but it is a cuttin' fool. Reminds me a lot of the old Mac 610. Good saw.
