Q: I'm looking for an electric pole saw. Home use-dead branches, thinning, etc. I would really like the battery type for convenience but i'm worried that the power wont be there. Plug in Earthwise looks good due to self oiler but i've never heard of the company. Your suggestion? by Drew Harleman from Pennsylvania on October 30, 2011
A: We've done well with Earthwise products over the past several years- they hold up well and folks like them.
The newer lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries last longer and charge faster than the older Ni-Cad batteries do.
On the electrics- one thing to keep in mind is the Earthwise PS4008 is only a pole saw: the pole telescopes from short to long, but the whole thing functions as a unit.
The Remington electric pole saw converts easily from a pole saw to a chain saw; so you may be able to use it more.
The big difference between the two is the weight distribution. The Remington has all the weight concentrated at the far end, where the Earthwise pole saw is more balanced between the handle end and the saw end. by Mike, Product Expert
Q: how large a limb does this saw cut by Zollie B Sullivan from North Carolina on August 18, 2011
A: I wouls say that this is able to cut 6-8 inch limbs. by Mike, Product Expert
Q: Can you add length attachement to a remington pole saw.

A: I am sorry, they don't off an extension pole for this product. by Mike, Product Expert
Q: I need a 'bar oiler' cap. The one that came on the saw has started to leak oil at the top of the cap. by Robert Valdez from Virginia on June 04, 2011
A: I am sorry we don't carry parts or pieces. Here is Remingtons technical support line, they may be able to help you. 866-206-2707

Q: what gauge of extension cord is recommended and what is the maximum recommended length cord before the unit looses power? by Rusty Caston from Oklahoma on May 15, 2011
A: For maximum length. I would use a 14ga cord for a distance of 25ft. if you wanted to go longer I would use a 12ga cord for a distance of 50ft. Thats the max I would go with this machine before you start having issues with the motor. by Mike, Product Expert

Mike's Recommendation
This is such a handy tool- after a hard winter a "chain saw on a stick" can be so useful for cleaning up damage and debris.
If a broken limb is just beyond your reach, stay off the ladder. Use the telescoping pole to bring the saw to the branch and cut it away.
Once the branch is on the ground, just remove the saw from the pole and trim the branch into manageable pieces.
If you have more than just a few things to trim, or they are out of extension cord range, you may want to consider the Better and Best picks.

Great Purchase Decision
After having to take back a previous 'expandable" pole saw to the local Big Box Store (because it wouldn't expand), I decided to try online.
This saw worked great. Easy to assemble and I was using it to cut soon after I took it out of the box. Just as easy to use, and was not too heavy to manage when fully expanded.
I would definitely recommend it to others.

Amazing how long it lasted
I had a very large mesquite tree to cut down. I bought this saw for the job. I figured it would last for the job and at the price I paid I would save on what the gardener told me it would cost.
Immediately I was amazed at how well it cut, even through some pretty thick limbs. It cut up the whole tree and then I just kept using it and using it. Three years later and with regular use the chain finally got dull. Instead of trying to find a chain I sent the saw to the local thrift store.
Without hesitation I went out and purchased the same exact saw. The feature that lets you separate the saw from the pole is handy. Overall the quality is good enough for the home user. The motor is strong and never bogged down. I'm sure there are better more hefty pole saws out there but for what I need it for there is no need to spend the extra money. The price is right but it is not a cheap saw.

This is a good little saw.
My second one, I learned the hard way, use the right tool for the job. I burned my first one on a palm tree! Don't try it.
For limbing and light cutting it's perfect, but get a larger saw for larger jobs.

Cleanup after October Snowstorm
The storm that hit northern NJ on October 29 caused more damage to the trees on our property than we have seen in 37 years.
This saw was a huge help in trimming the lower broken branches. It is easy to use, plenty powerful enough and I love the fact that you can detach the saw from the pole to use for any cutting job up to about 8 inches in diameter.
The only thing I would like to have is an automatic chain oiler - having to pump the oil out manually every couple of cuts is a bit annoying, but for the price .....

Great Idea - Poor Implementation
The crux of the issue on any pole saw is weight. If you plan on sawing more than a few minutes the saw and pole must be relatively light. The RM1015P is great in this regard. But, sadly, the reason it is light is due to the cheap materials it is made from. When I got it I took one look at the extensive use, not just of plastic, but of CHEAP plastic, and knew it wouldn't last long.
Mine lasted about two hours before the motor froze up I think it was bearing failure. So, cheap materials were used also inside the motor assembly.
Right now I have turned it in to a Remington repair facility. They told me that it probably would not be fixed, but that I could turn it in for a replacement unit, AFTER the paperwork has been accomplished.
Since the unit only cost about 100 bucks I"m not too angry, but why oh why don't they make products that could last more than a few hours before they quit. I've got 15 YEARS on a Husky saw that has been almost bullet proof, so I know it can be done.
In summary, if you have a very small amount of work to be done, this pole saw might be your ticket. But, don't expect this one to last very long.
CSD RESPONDS: We carry Husky (Husqvarna) pole saws; they will last much longer, but you will pay 5 or 6 times what you did for the Remington. The choice is up to you.
Please remember that factory warranties cover defects in materials or workmanship; they do not cover wear and tear or abuse.

Good Value
For $100, I don't know that I could expect much more. The cuts very well and the telescoping pole works easily.
The chain oiling system is primitive, but seems to get the job done, and that goes for the chain tensioning system. It is not an instrument to be used by the weak of arm, in that the entire weight of the saw must be leveraged with arm and wrist strength it does get tiring, but that too is the nature of the beast.
I don't hold false hopes that the unit will last many years, but it's fine while it does work.

My chain saw
After easy assembly I tried it out. It works great. A little heavy when extended, but manageable.
I really have not used it much as the season is not a growing season. Next Spring the maple trees grow like weeds. I like to keep them away from the house.
This will be better than being up on a ladder with a branch trimmer that you have to put over the branch and pull the rope, leaving you unsteady on the ladder when the branch comes down. It will be faster also.

Perfect for trimming
I used it to trim several trees near my house and for chopping down the trims. I cut sizes up to 4-5 inches diameter and it had power to spare.
When fully extended is heavy, you need good arms but I can tell you that my neighbour, chainsaw man, who has a few gas operated ones, borrowed mine to trim some of his trees as well.
Overall, very satisfied. I don't give it the best rating because I haven't use it for a long time yet, so I cannot attest for its durability.

Great for trimming
Bought this to trim branches that over hang my roof. It is perfect for that job, I have a gas powered one for bigger jobs.
I can not think of anything bad to say about this saw.
It is a great value for your money.

Easy to use
I liked the chainsaw as it was very easy to use. The fact that you could use it with or without the pole was a good feature.
When the pole is extended full length the saw does become top heavy so be careful. When you saw through a limb at full extension you have to be ready to support the saw or it will quickly drop with the branch.
One change I would recommend to this saw is that it include an automatic oiler. When you are using the saw without the pole you can easily pump the oiler bulb to keep the chain oiled. When the saw is attached to the end of the pole you have to stop after almost every cut to pump the oiler bulb to make sure that the chain and bar are oiled before the next cut.

my short pole
pole was not 15 ft not even close
CSD RESPONDS: The pole is supposed to telescope out so that that the total length, from the end of the chainsaw bar to the end of the handle, is 9 feet, 11 inches. The pole should also telescope in to shorter lengths.
Remington advertises that it will "extend your reach up to 15 feet", but that is based on a 6 foot person using the saw. Once we figured this out, we changed our description to reflect just the length of the pole and saw.
If your unit does not telescope, would you please contact the folks at Remington, toll free, at 866-206-2707? They will be happy to walk you through some simple troubleshooting to determine which part they need to send you.
Be sure to have the serial number of your unit handy when you call. If they need a copy of your invoice, just click on Login in the upper right corner of our web site and follow the prompts to print one out.

Great pole mounted chainsaw!!!
This pole mounted chain saw is fantastic, and the added bonus of being able to remove the saw from the pole and use it on downed limbs and trees makes it that much better!!!
We borrowed a friends Remington RM1015P saw to take down a large Plum tree in our yard - it never skipped a beat. We liked it so much we purchased our own.
This is a very useful saw.

"Great saw for the money"
I ordered this pole saw on Sunday, got it on Thursday, tried it out on Saturday. My arms are sore.
This little saw will cut huge white oak limbs all day and beg for more. I was surprised at the power it has. It beats the heck out of manual pole saws.
It's a little heavy at first but, after you use it awhile and learn how to position the saw on the limb you are cutting, it is "GREAT".
Thanks to all at Chainsaws Direct.

Excellent Product
For years I have used various means to keep what was once a rather large oak tree in my front yard manageable. I climbed ladders, used a hand held chain saw and a pole trimmer.
I couldn't be more satisfied with the Remington pole chain saw. It is the perfect height to manage my oak tree from the ground. Exactly the height I wish to maintain. Cuts through the branches rather easily and with little effort. The saw does the work.
I'm elated- especially as a retired senior citizen who enjoys doing things for himself. I recommend for quality, features, ease of use and price.

Best Investment
Fast delivery, two days and it was here.
At first look I said to myself, what did I buy? After filling it with oil and going out back to my birch tree that had 7 dead 4" to 6" limbs on it, I was dumb founded. Chopped like a champ and best of all- No ladder needed.
Best investment I made in a long time. It is a little over powering when fully extended, but this can be overlooked because of it's performance.

Performs great
fast delivery. I have used it to cut limbs up to 4 inches thick and it performs great. I was able to maintain control of the saw even when extended to the full length.
The large rubber covered fiberglass grip is a lot of help controlling the saw when extended and the aluminum extension makes for a more stable operation.

Indispensible once you stop laughing
I bought this saw to take down a couple of mid-sized trees without having to use a tall ladder.
It arrived in a day which was unexpectedly fast.
My wife couldn't stop laughing when I pulled the little saw out of the box, she's used to seeing and hearing my full sized chain saw.
Well, three (low noise) hours later the first 8" maple tree was down, sawn up and cleaned up. No more laughter now. It finished it's second tree a few hours later.
This is one serious cutting little saw, light enough to hold over your head yet powerful enough to cut through 6"- 8" limbs.
Whether attached to the pole or used alone, it's a nice addition to the tool kit.

This thing is a dream
This is a first for me- I never write about anything I purchase, but this warrants it.
First, I have always been stand-offish about ordering anything on the Internet and by mail order but I can say about this company they were straight up and gave me the best service I have ever had.
It was simple to follow my shipment and it arrived on time.
Now, as for the chainsaw- this thing is a dream, it works better then I had hoped. Most that I have tried from friends were bulky, and after a short time you could hardly hold them up any longer; but this Remington 1015p is fun to work with.
The part I loved was being able to remove it from the pole to cut up the branches for fire wood.
Do I recommend this unit? You bet- as now my neighbors up here in the Sierra Mountains are getting the same one.
The only negative thing I can say about it is don't let your neighbors try it, they will be slow giving it back and you won't get your work done!

Capable of big jobs
This is my second Remington Pole Saw. I had the first one for some time, and I really liked it. It is small and light, but capable of big jobs.
I lost that one when Hurricane Ike came a couple of years ago, and I wanted the exact same thing to replace it. No one in my area has them now, but Chain Saw Direct does, and they are good to do business with.

Worth the money
I ordered this after someone I knew had this brand. It worked well for them. I needed some trees trimmed that I could not reach after we had snow break them.
This little saw worked well for the amount of work it was put through on its first day on the job. Now it has been loaned to a friend so they could finish trimming their trees.
I would recommend this little saw, it's worth the money.

Earned it's spot in my garden shed
I bought my Remington pole pruner on Sunday evening and it was delivered on Wednesday morning. You can't ask for faster shipping than that.
After using it several times already it has earned a spot in my garden shed with my other tree handling tools. It has ample power to cut through 6"-8" logs.
The only downside that I can find is, when you have it fully extended and cutting a limb it's very hard to see where the blade is. Using it left-handed helps some.
If it ever shells out I would probably replace it with the same. It's a Good Unit!

Good Buy
The chain saw was as I expected, with quite a few improvements over the one I had (it was pretty well used).
It has a better handle and hand guard. My old one stripped the fiberglass drive gear and I felt it was better to buy a new one- especially at the price. It's a good buy.

"Chain Saw On A Stick"
While this “chain saw on a stick” may seem odd at first, it is quite a handy addition to anyone’s landscaping arsenal.
Use it on the adjustable, telescoping pole for trimming limbs up to 15 feet overhead without teetering on a ladder.
Then, remove the pole and you have a nimble 10” hand held chain saw to take out that branch that acts like a limbo pole every time the lawn is mowed.
Since it’s electric it will start easily every time, anytime it’s needed.
You might want to add an all-weather extension cord (sold separately) so you can easily work in any weather.
