Best First Chainsaw
This chainsaw I got for Christmas two years ago and I love it. Great size and easy to use for a 17 year old.
Pros: I'd Buy It Again, Easy To Store, Easy To Use, Durable
Cons: Loud

Piece Of Crap
This chain saw is a waste of time. I only used it maybe 6 times. The chain kept coming off. I had to keep putting it back on and tightening it. Pretty soon the tightening mechanism was shot, and the saw useless. Would make a good boat anchor. Don't waste your time on this piece of junk.
Cons: Low Quality, Difficult To Use, Unreliable

Avoid This Little Beasty!
The first use was great, thought I'd found what I was looking for, now I spend more time trying to start it than cutting. Called the store and the comment back was "that's what they are" so its just not me. I have been cutting wood for 25 plus years and this is by far the worst running and starting saw I have ever seen. I guess Poulan told me in the instructions though, it says "keep pulling until it starts!"
Pros: None Just A Chain Saw, First Use Was Great
Cons: Difficult To Use, Unreliable, Chair Bar Always Loosening, Spend More Time Trying To Start Then Cutting

Decent Saw For The Cost
I have been purchasing Poulan 14" Saws for gathering wood, keeping my home stocked with wood and also enough to sell several cords a year.

The 14" are good for about three solid years without replacement and that is with a whole lot of use. I have been through about three saws now and have each of them re-using parts as needed.

If you're looking for a fairly reliable saw and do not intend on using the saw very much, be sure and dump out the fuel and make the mixtures properly,... more

No Problems
I have been using for a year now, no complaints. I don't know who wrote all the negative reviews, but I was recently given another one from my uncle's estate. I now have two. Pump the primer bulb six times, full choke. When it fires, move to half choke. Both start and run well, the second one despite having nasty old gas left in it. No complaints, cutting Pecan for months. Good saw, perfect for a small, home operation.
Pros: Price, Easy To Use, Quiet

Great For The Price
I didn't get this saw from this site I got it at a big box store. I would have if I'd known about this site I didn't really need a chainsaw I just thought it would be a cool addition to all my other yard tools which it is when you take it out of the box and put bar oil and gas-oil mix in it. It will be a little hard to start, that's because it's new but after 2 tanks of gas, starting problems go away. Just take it easy on the first few cuts, most starting problems can be taken care of by using... more

Bought And Returned
I bought this little chainsaw at a big box store and added the correct fluids. I started it as directed and despite eventually starting, it would always die. I cut 5 limbs from a small tree about 2 inches in diameter and then the chain broke off. As it turned out the chain was bent so I returned it. Got a second one within 24 hours and same story different verse. It won't stay started longer than 2 minutes. At least the chain didn't break, we'll at least not in the first hour it hasn't. Not... more

Not Happy
The chain saw started fine. But when I started cutting small limbs it would bog down. When I turned it on it's side, it would die. I am not happy with my purchase.

It's Crap And So Is The Warranty!
From the time of purchase I had problems with the chain coming off. When I called and took it to local service center I got charged $37.98. I made the mistake of buying the extended warranty, but it turns out the warranty is useless. I just got off 1hour phone call with customer support, mostly on hold, and was basically told I'm on my own. DO NOT BUY this product.
Cons: Unreliable, Difficult To Use, Low Quality

Takes More Time To Try To Start Than Actually Working.
I have 25 acres in Oregon that require some cleaning and pruning of trees. So, I bought the smallest one because of its weight and the name is well respected by professionals. When I first started, it ran fine but the next time... and the next... I spent more time trying to start the machine than actually cutting wood and of course, you have some time waiting, resting and disliking the unit.
Pros: Price, Light Weight, Easy To Store
Cons: Low Quality, Difficult To Use, Bad Instructions, Durability

Ran For 20 Minutes
I bought this chainsaw from Meijers today to do some cleanup of fallen limbs. After 20 minutes of cutting limbs no more than 5 inches in diameter, I heard a clank, then the chain stopped and I could not start it again. The pull starter would not budge.

Sore Arm
I am in my third day of ownership. I have lost patience.

On day one, I tried starting it for well over an hour, on and off. I memorized the startup instructions. Still no success.

On day two, it fired once. It died before I could get going. At least another half hour was devoted to getting it to go.

Today, day three, it finally fired. I almost got all the way through a limb. I could not get it restarted.

Reliable
I have had a 14" Poulan for about 5 years and it has started every time I attempted to start it, I have lent it out and when returned the user was impressed.

I have not used it a whole lot but like I said it has always worked well for me when I did need it. I am not one to drain the gas and I do not store it in a case, in other words I just pick it up prime it and it starts and I use it and then put it back where I found it to sit there for the next time i need it.

Good saw ...... I... more

Will Not Start
Bought the chainsaw at Lowes. Cannot get it to start. Called Poulan customer service. They referred me to local service company. Called them. Said they were a week behind.

Lowes will not take it back.

Larry,
We do apologize for the inconvenience but your saw will need to be seen by an authorized service center to determine what the cause of the lack of start issue is.

Never Ran
I bought this chain saw from Lowes for light work around the home. When I first bought it, it would not idle. I was referred to a local service center, they adjusted the carb so it would idle and changed the spark plug. Now (after using it once) it won't even start. I contacted Poulan and was told to pretty much forget it and buy another brand.
Pros: Price
Cons: Low Quality, Unreliable, Never Got It To Run, Never Go It To Run

Great Light Duty Chainsaw
I've had this chainsaw for years. Starts all the time, never had a problem, can buy new blades(chains) at Menards in packs of two that are almost as cheap as having the old ones sharpened, great saw for the money.

Tempermental At Best
I've had this saw for a few years now. I only bought it to cut up fallen down limbs etc. I've only needed to use it 2 or 3 times a year. Every time I think about using this saw I feel sick. If I can get it started it usually doesn't stay running for very long. Then it's almost impossible to restart. Unless you have all day to waste starting this puppy, I would not recommend it to a soul.
Pros: Price
Cons: Unreliable, Difficult To Use

Great Saw !!
I do a lot of Trail building and Maintenance For Mountain biking. Bought my first Poulan used .... lasted about 5 years .... ( I also burn a lot of wood at home ) ...

When it finally died I immediately went out and bought a new one. I have used the saw to cut large (24inch + ) trees as well as a lot of small stuff.

It's nice & light ( I carry it in a pack pack a lot ). I've had larger saws and now longer see the point in them.

This a Great little saw for the money !!!

Used 1st Time For 5 Hours...no Problems
I was on the lookout for a chainsaw and looked at tons of different reviews. Poulan's never got glowing reviews and I was leaning towards a Husky. I was talking to my father in law about chainsaws in general. He said "I have a little Poulan I have used three times in three years, you can have it".

I thought why not. That day I took it out and sawed up an overgrown Pine tree. I used it on multiple diameter logs, but none bigger then 6-8 inches. The saw worked great for around... more

Not Easy To Start
This brand has a reputation for being hard to start. Although a spray of start fluid helps a bunch. These need fresh gas or they are even harder to start.

Great Little Chainsaw
I bought this saw several years ago and left it in the box until last year ( my mcculloch dry rotted) had very little problem starting and cut logs like a champ. Since then, I purchased an electric model.. they can be a little temperamental but you have to be patient..its worth it..

Ready!!
Well we haven't used it yet. We are north of Houston, and because of hurricanes we needed to be prepared.

Also I have a couple of acres out back and trees do die, limbs big as trees fall, and we have to be ready to take care of them. I installed a wood stove over the summer and if we get a real cold snap, I can heat with wood from my back yard. Lol- Free heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
