Doesn't Live Up To Hype
recently bought a Poulan pro 18" saw. I remembered when Poulan was a pretty good saw (10-12 years ago), so I thought I'd get another one. Boy have I made a poor choice!!! Hard to start, cheap plastic on-off & choke buttons, every time I go up my ladder it dies before I reach the top. Then back down, restart & repeat, over & over.

Then today, to top it all off, after 3 times using it on med. trees it starts smoking & I find out the chain is so dull it wouldn't cut paper.... more

On My 2nd One
First one ran great out of the box strong and powerful. But only lasted one season of personal home use cutting wood for wood burner and the crankshaft snapped. But for the price I just bought another one and knock on wood it's almost through its second season. AS LONG AS THE CRANK DON'T BREAK. I have the spare parts to fix it. Plus 4 chains now. AS THE SAYING GOES " YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" and boy is she cold blooded and thirsty for bar oil
Pros: Price, Easy To Use, Cheap
Cons: Heavy, Cheap

Bought 2, Took Them Both Back
I bought one and when I got it to the house it wouldn't even crank. I returned it to the store and got another one. It started fine, ran good for a couple tanks of gas then it started losing power and kept stalling. I returned it and will not buy another one. I bought the Mac.CS380. I have run it now for about 3 weekends of firewood cutting, about a good twenty hrs. of run time and could not be any more satisfied!
Pros: Features, Light Weight
Cons: Unreliable, Low Quality, Difficult To Use

Nice Saw For The Price
I bought this saw around a month ago. I've gone through about 3 tanks of gas. I heat with wood so my saws go through a lot of wood. So far the saw is awesome. Cuts fast, starts easy. It's a nice heavy saw for bigger jobs. Very happy!!!
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast, Reliable, I'd Buy It Again
Cons: Heavy

My Poulan Chainsaw Sucks
I bought this chainsaw due to a storm knocking over a bunch of trees at my house. It worked great for that, and even helped out a buddy that had the same thing happen. Put it up for the year. Went to start it the next year and had to pull the carb off and soak it due to varnish, 10% ethanol crap their putting into the gas. Not the chainsaws fault I will add. After I got the varnish out it still wouldn't crank easily. Took the exhaust off so I could see the piston and rings, the piston was all... more

Great saw! Used it to cut down mostly pine, easy to clean, started right up and went right through pine as you would expect. Would recommend.

Poor Quality
Difficult to start after several months of use. Plastic pulley on pull starter looks like it was designed to fail.

A Great Value
An excellent saw for occasional, moderate use. It starts easily and is well-balanced. I cut down a few trees a month, and so far have been happy with the saw's power.

The carrying case is a plus. Most similarly-priced saws don't come with a case. It also comes with an extra chain, a quart of bar oil and a chain sharpening kit.

On the downside, the choke and on/off switch are clunky and cheap and hard to operate. The operator's manual is lousy-it doesn't give chain specs and there's no... more
Pros: Durable, Price, Reliable, I'd Buy It Again

Worked Twice, Then...
I purchased this saw, used it once, it started having problems, returned it to the store, got another one in exchange, same saw. This one made it out twice, but after that the problems began. You name it, using this saw went like this for every hour you spend trying to get it to work you get 5 minutes of it actually working. It's poorly made, heavy, and extremely unreliable.

Workhorse Saw
My oldest saw. I've put this through allot of work clearing property in the 3 years I've owned it and it's still going strong.
If it broke down tomorrow I would still be a happy man.

Pros: Durable, Starts easy, adequate power, and good price

Cons: Hate the front mounted tensioner.
Like all poulan pros it loves its bar oil, keep plenty and check regularly.
Buy a back up chain because the original will dull quickly
Bulkier then most competitors.
Needs to warm up 2-3 minutes before use... more
Pros: Reliable, Durable, Easy To Use, Price
Cons: Heavy
