Paperweight After 20 Hours
Used occasionally over a year or two. Never ran for extended periods. Not a problem at first. Run time continually reduced. With under 20 hours total run time, engine burned out and insufficient compression to start. Repair shop says common with remington. Twice purchase price to repair. Wouldn't buy another remington gas engine product. In fairness, their little electric pole saw has been very good for many years.

Junk
This saw is a miserable piece of JUNK...if it stalls, it won't restart. I've been pulling on it for an hour, doing all what they tell you and it's still not running.

I gave about $200.00 for it, I would gladly take 10.00 for it, to cover the price of 2 chain files.

Do Not Buy
I purchased this saw at Menards. I cut down two pine trees with minor stalling and chain binding. The next day I cut down one hardwood stump and the saw kept stalling. I could not keep it running longer than 1 minute at a time. I followed all the instructions for startup eg. no ethanol fuel, 40:1 oil ratio etc.

This saw was very disappointing. I returned the saw to Menards the same day and they did refund my purchase price. I then purchased a Stihl at another store and have had an excellent... more

Great Saw
I'm 48, native Vermonter, and have cut firewood with a buddy for over 30 years. We've been through a lot of chainsaws over the years...some good, some so-so, and some not worth the sweat it'd take to chuck them into the woods...this saw is excellent. Heavy, powerful, but nicely balanced and she breezed through a 3+ foot diameter Rock Maple with little effort. Blocked the 40 foot tree into 18 inch blocks for splitting, and the saw ran strong, and never slowed through three tanks of gas. The... more

Bought New Remington
I am not for positive who manufactures this saw? But it is a powerhouse saw. Plus it is made of something as it isn't a lightweight pop metal saw.

I am very impressed with the power of this saw and the speed it cuts. Only negative is one of the bar nuts vibrated off the 1st time I used it.

I owned three chain saws before this one and all three lasted just one season each. They worked very hard to do the job, I was very unhappy, but with this Remington I think it is worth the price. Good power, good balance easy to handle. I like it.
Pros: Price, Exceeded Expectations, Fast, I'd Buy It Again

Poor Filtering System
I had a Remington Rodeo, with in the first 3 weeks the recoil broke, then it was just one year and days the cylinder rings soared. And the main reason is the filter is only a micro screen and allows dirt to get through. And they would not honor their 2 year warranty. I will never buy another Remington. I wrote Remington, and they said we aren't the manufacturer. You need to go there, but you can write MTD.

Log Home
I usually by Stihl products. A saw to match this one would be over $500.00, so at less than half the price this was a good buy. I was surprised at the quality. It appears to be good quality. I have only used it twice. Both times it fired on the second or third pull. I had a stack of left over 8x8 logs from the log house that was 4 feet tall. I started in the middle and cut through all of them in 30 seconds. Has nice power. The storage case is a plus too.
Pros: Price, Easy To Store, Durable

Not Worth The Low Price
I purchased this saw a week ago as I browsed a Menards for some other yards items. The price was attractive so I figured I would give it a try. I already had a 8-10" Pine down so I tried it out sectioning that little guy up. Started smooth, light, worked well enough. A few days later, I was trimming up some Pines and was going to take down a few little undesired trees, nothing more than 5 inches in diameter. I had to coax it to start, it would die out and idle rough, so adjusted the idle... more

Saw Starts & Runs, But Auto Olier Failed
Bought the Remington Rodeo 18 based on price & features. Saw performed well out of the box, but after a few hours of use the auto oiler stopped working. Took it to a local warranty repair center, where after a week they had not gotten to it (after telling me the parts were in and it would be fixed the next morning) but I needed it for a job and took it back without repair. Started right up, but burns up chains from use. Will try and get it serviced again shortly.
Pros: Price, Features
Cons: Durability, Auto-oiler Stopped Working After 3 Hrs Of Use

Bad Chain Link
I ran the saw the first time and after a couple of cuts, the chain came off the sprocket....I tried myself to get the chain back on, without success...I finally figured out one of the links was slightly bent, and was binding the chain from moving..I filed the link down, and finally was able to get the chain moving....I have made a few cuts since then, and it is working fine.

Poor Mans 290
First off I'm a chainsaw nut..wife says I have a fetish. But I don't say anything about her shoe purchases and she leaves me alone about my chainsaws. Got this saw about a month ago after reading some reviews. The only negative review I agree with is the oil leaking in the case..it does. Shouldn't but does.

Easy fix turn off the oiler screw when done cutting. Power is great! Guess the closest comparsion I can offer is it has about but not quite the ass as my sthil 290 with a 20" bar... more

Low Quality Product
This chainsaw worked great right out of the box, and easily cut through 12-16" trees. After only 2 uses (about 3-4 hours total) the chainsaw died and would not restart. I took it to an authorized repair center, who said it was DOA and was not worth repairing. What a disappointing ending to a great start. I do not recommend purchasing, and would suggest spending a little extra for a higher quality machine.
Pros: Price, Easy To Use
Cons: Low Quality, Unreliable, Durability

Not Sure About This Chain Saw..
It got to my house fast and in great shape..I did everything the directions say to start it and used 40:1 pre blended fuel..The Job: It has power and I took down 2 trees about 16 inches around no problem, however, while cutting them up, all of a sudden, the chain wouldn't cut, and it was real hot, adjusted chain, let it cool down, same thing, won't cut.Manual says, dull chain, maybe, but only used about 20 min.I had read in reviews this saw comes with the wrong chain, could that be it? I'm not... more

Chris,
Chris,

Double check and make sure you have plenty of oil for the bar and chain in the oil reservoir. Typically the reason why you would see so much heat and a seize in operation would be due to lack of lubrication. The bar and chain oiler is a separate reservoir. It would be tough to see a chain go dull as quick as this. Don't want to rule it out, but rare. Please give us a call and we would be happy to help trouble shoot.

Not Good, Don't Waste Your Money
I bought a Remmington chain saw and had to bring it back to the store a week later because it wouldn't idle right. I exchanged it for another one. I had that one less then 2 weeks and didn't even go through a tank of gas when the string wouldn't rewind. I took that one back to Menards and they said I could not exchange it and that I had to bring it to a service center. The service center is about 40 miles from my house, one way so that's 80 miles round trip and then I would have to make the... more

Pos - Right Out Of The Box. Fast Start Is A Total Lie!
What a piece of crap. It comes with a 12 step instruction sheet on how to start it. Prime 10 times, put on the choke, pull 10 or so times, put choke on half open, pull a bunch more. The starter didn't even engage until the rope was 3/4 of the way out. Got maybe 2 pops with each pull. Once I finally got it started, it wouldn't idle. Back to yanking on the rope!

Chain was tight when I started using it, but it came off while cutting some branches. Got wrapped around the clutch and... more

Reliable Starts, Does The Job
I bought this saw in a hurry because I had a couple large pine trees to cut up and move and my regular chain saw just wouldn't start even after paying $75 to have the carburator replaced.

The Remington came with a good price. The price was very good, the quality is about what you would expect for residential service. I am pleased with the cutting and starting ability. I am having to replace the drive sprocket as I write this review. This was sooner than I would expect but I did give it some... more

Good Saw
I bought the saw and it really runs well. I've got an Echo CS550, the same size saw, but the Remington is faster at cutting wood, and it starts easily. I'm buying the tool to adjust the carburetor. I think it will run even better then.
