Q: Mike, Im trying to calibrate this to a Troy Bilt 10HP chipper Im seeing. How does the power or performance compare?

A: There isn't a formula for converting HP to CC, I'm sorry to say. There's a lot more to horsepower than just the engine size.

For example, a well tuned up 250 cc engine will have more horsepower then an old one. There are too many other factors involved to convert directly.

This model is Troy-bilt's heavy duty machine; if that helps. I checked for other equipment using the Briggs' 250CC engine; some of them are rated at around 8.5 HP.
A good way to compare performance is to check the size of the branch the unit can process. A unit that can handle 6" branches is more powerful than one that handles 2" branches.

How the debris is processed can be important, too. Some systems use knives and flails; some have flywheels with blades imbedded in them; others use combinations of tools to turn wood into chips.

This unit has 2 chromium steel chipper knives and 12 replaceable cast steel flails; and handles branches up to 3" in diameter.

This unit gets our "Best" rating because it has all of the features of our "Better" pick, and more.

It can handle branches up to 3 inches thick. An inch may not seem like a lot, but try breaking a 2" branch over your knee. Then try breaking a 3" branch- you'll be lucky not to break your knee, instead.

The engine is larger, and the chutes are more generously sized so you fight less to get cumbersome branches and debris safely into the hopper.

Add to that Troy-Bilt quality and reliability and you have a chipper/shredder for all seasons.

 Troy-bilt chipper does a great job

Have used the chipper the past week and it works fine, starts easy.

A larger gas tank would be a plus. also the ability to use the machine without having to use the bag would provde greater flexibility in using the machine for a longer period of time.

Other then that it is a substantial machine.
