Selecting a gas chain saw is a lot like jumping into a swimming pool.
If you're a seasoned lumberjack, dive right into the deep end with a professional grade chain saw.
If you're a little timid, we recommend wading into the shallow end with a consumer grade model instead.
Gas chain saws come in three grades:
Consumer Chainsaws

If you're a novice chainsaw user, this is a good place to start. They're loaded with features like easy-starting engines, and inertia-activated chain break for increased safety.
Consumer chainsaws are designed for folks who use their saws intermittently, to clean up after storms or to remove lone trees. If you need your chainsaw regularly, move on to a higher grade.
Prosumer Chainsaws

If you want a more powerful chainsaw that can rip through harder wood and bigger trees, look at prosumer saws. Features include adjustable oil flow, which allows the most control of chain and bar oiling depending on cutting conditions.
Prosumer chainsaws are for professionals who don't want the big price tags and homeowners who cut trees and wood on a more regular basis. If you're an everyday chainsaw user, step up to a professional model.
Professional Chainsaws

Despite what you might think, professional chainsaws are light-weight, making them easier to use all day, everyday. Balanced, ergonomic design and top handles makes them easy to maneuver.
Built to withstand the rigors of professional use, pro-grade saws have longer warranties to protect your investment. These saws are top-of-the-line, so if you're an occasional arborist, it's more saw than you need.
